Day 4: June 15, 2006
We arrived in Paris by Eurostar and the students loved it, although most of them slept since it was an early trip. We got to the hotel, checked in and I quickly took them out; first to the Louvre and then for a walk up the Champs Elysée, where we had our dinner at Flams Pizza.

But if there’s one way to gain easy insight into a foreign culture, it’s eating. In fact, a region’s food is extremely revealing. It reflects nearly everything about a place, from geography and technology to politics and art. But as educational as a meal can be, it can also be an adventure in taste. And the further you are from home, the more the aromas and flavors stray from those you’re used to. In fact, no matter where you go, unique and extraordinary dishes are there for you to find. Not all will seem delicious, but for a truly authentic experience, be brave and dig in.  Get the full story...

Tips and Tales from a Summer Academy Alumnus
Ridge is a go-getter. As he approaches graduation at St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, he can look back on a number of accomplishments. But instead, the top student, student body president and campus ministry member looks forward to his future goals. In the fall he’ll attend Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he’ll major in Political Science and Government. And hopefully do some more traveling. Because having traveled on a summer tour with Explorica last year, from London to Madrid, Ridge is eager to explore new places and meet new people — to absorb as much as he can from the world around him. Meet the Team: Tom O’Grady
An Interview with the Summer Academy Program Manager
Everything Tom O’Grady does he does with commitment. In fact, it would seem that the Program Manager for Explorica Summer Academy has insatiable energy. And from running marathons—and 60-mile ultra-marathons—to running Summer Academy, Tom is busy. But having started at Explorica in October 2004 as a Program Consultant, helping teachers plan tours for their students, Tom’s hard work has paid off, resulting in an undeniable knack for organizing excellent student tours. Despite his busy schedule we caught up with Tom to ask him a few questions about his job, his travel experiences and his love for marathons and soccer.
